Library director asks council to survey community on fireworks spending, proposes grant-funded expansion

Library Director Kari Rose told the council July 14 she would like the city to survey residents to weigh whether money currently used for the Fourth of July fireworks should instead be redirected to other uses. Clerk Marissa Lockwood said she will check the terms of the existing fireworks contract before the council takes further action.
Rose also outlined early plans for a library expansion and said she would pursue outside funding sources: "The project would not be tax funded, only grants, donations and fundraising." She asked the council for guidance on whether to proceed with grant applications and possible land purchase adjacent to the library.
