Justin Wax described the Denham Springs Junior High ambassador program as a student-run leadership initiative that predates his tenure. "They're not selected because of a GPA. They're not selected because they're the best at a particular sport. They have to perform, and they have to demonstrate their leadership skills through a tryout," Wax said.
Wax said the program shifts some daily responsibilities—like morning announcements and student-led character development—to students so they can "make junior high mistakes" in a supported environment. He added that counselors are integrated into the program for lunch-and-learn sessions and to help students develop character traits over monthlong focuses.
