Denham Springs principal Justin Wax named Louisiana State Principal of the Year

Justin Wax, principal of Denham Springs Junior High, told the LPPS District Download podcast that he was stunned when organizers announced him as the overall Louisiana State Principal of the Year. "When they said my name, I just had to think there's a mistake," Wax said, describing the moment he looked over and saw his wife and parents in the audience.
Wax emphasized that the honor reflects the work of a school and community, not a single person. He said the award has led to invitations to mentor novice principals and serve on panels across the state, allowing him to "be a sounding board" and share practices he and his staff use at Denham Springs Junior High. "It's representative of a whole community and a school," Wax said.
Purvis framed the recognition as a point of pride for Livingston Parish Public Schools, thanking Wax for representing the district statewide. Purvis also noted other district finalists who will be recognized at the same gala, including Wes Howard (high school semifinalist) and Grace Renerson (new teacher of the year nominee).
