Superintendent Purvis outlines grants, transportation changes and student-performance gains

Superintendent Purvis delivered the district's annual update, reporting progress on consultant recommendations, grant funding and student outcomes. Purvis said LeanFrog recommended increasing grant revenue and that the district has secured an additional $1,500,000 since January 2024 and is actively pursuing roughly $500,000 more. He also said a transportation review identified seven buses that can be removed through route consolidation; no staff positions were eliminated and duties were reassigned to create a safety-and-training coordinator.
Purvis highlighted increases in meal participation and academic benchmarks: he said 32 of 42 schools now offer nontraditional breakfast service, feeding “well over 2,000 more students breakfast per day,” and reported district metrics that exceed several 2030 goals (college-and-career index cited at 82.3 versus a 2030 goal of 55; WorkKeys/ASVAB gold benchmark rising to 71.7 from 48.9; literacy benchmark reported at 68% versus a 60% goal). "Our theme for the year is navigating growth, impacting what matters," Purvis said. He also corrected earlier scheduling remarks and confirmed new-teacher orientation is July 31 and the first student day is August 6.
