Kristen, the DDA's Main Street director, reported on a range of downtown projects at the July 22 meeting. She said the facade grant program (a $50,000 pool with up to $10,000 reimbursable grants) has already committed or approved $20,000 for two projects: $10,000 to Keith Jewelry for second-story storefront windows and a full rear-facade redo for Blush & Ivy Bridal.
Kristen also described a Ready to Recruit visit involving MEDC and program staff that included a community tour and follow-up steps: a community survey (timing described as tentative) and a mock business-recruitment exercise to prepare staff. On public art, she updated the board that a mural on DNS Auto has been completed by artist Dean Davis and that an asphalt street art installation on South Monroe is planned for the window between Sept. 21 and Oct. 2; she said the DDA has sent letters to nearby business owners and expects to request City Council permission to block the street during painting. "She wants to make sure... that nobody's walking on it or driving on it until it's done and it's sealed," Kristen said, summarizing the artist's concerns.
