Planning Commission nominates Vivian Warner as Acting Zoning Administrator

The Milton Planning Commission on July 21, 2026, voted unanimously to nominate Vivian Warner to serve as Acting Zoning Administrator, a limited statutory designation that authorizes an individual to sign permits when the Zoning Administrator is unavailable. The motion, moved by Commissioner Ben Frye, passed with all five members voting in favor (vote: 5-0).

Planning & Zoning Director Amanda Pitts and Town Planner Cassandra LaFayette told commissioners that the Commission had previously nominated the Town Planner for the Acting Zoning Administrator role but that timing and a potential conflict of interest made nominating the incoming part-time Zoning Officer more appropriate. Staff stressed that the designation "does not change an employee's position, compensation, or regular duties" and that internal procedures limit the Acting Zoning Administrator from exercising the authority while the Zoning Administrator is present.

The Commission discussed conflict-of-interest concerns with the Town Planner serving simultaneously in both staffing and Acting Zoning Administrator roles and agreed the part-time Zoning Officer role was a better fit for the designation. No further action was required at this meeting; the nomination will be transmitted to the Selectboard for appointment where applicable.
