Superintendent Pete Peterson described an incident at the middle/elementary front entrance (the "mushroom") and proposed a temporary closure in the morning and parts of the school day to reduce congestion and safety risk. His recommendation was to close the front entrance at 7:30 a.m., close it again at 1:30 p.m., and reopen it at 3:00 p.m.; Peterson said the district would provide at least two weeks' notice before implementing the change.
Director Dan Raap asked for clear communication so the public understands drop-off and pick-up expectations; as Raap put it, the district should ensure “clear expectations are shared so the public understands.” The board did not take an immediate vote; staff will return with any final proposal and notification plan.
