John Hassell, the district’s Director of Finance, told the board at its Dec. 8 meeting that the district is showing an approximately one-million-dollar deficit and pointed the board to a critical spreadsheet line (row 80) for context. Superintendent Pete Peterson asked that financial-status updates become a standing item under unfinished business and proposed scheduling workshops between January and February to dig into options and next steps; he said he would look for dates and aim to limit workshop participation to two board members to avoid creating a quorum.
The board agreed that workshops would be useful to frame difficult budget conversations; no detailed budget fixes were adopted at the meeting. The minutes show the board intends further discussion and follow-up reporting as staff assembles more detailed financial information.
