Senior services seeks added funding, declines senior weatherization to prioritize outreach

Rachel Kunnath briefed the board on Senior Services funding and program adjustments on May 21, 2026. Kunnath said AAA renewals require reapplication and that KCCA is competing for Older Americans Act (OAA) funding as well as Senior Millage allocations.
Kunnath said the agency requested $899,000 from Senior Millage for FY2027 and is asking for a $33,000 increase compared with the current year to expand Outreach and Assistance (OAA) capacity, including a request to add a fourth full-time position on the senior team if funded. Staff decided not to apply for senior weatherization funding (about $130,000) this cycle so those resources could be redirected to OAA and senior center staffing priorities. Kunnath said decisions on OAA funding are expected in June.
