Fallsburg building department reports heavy permit and inspection workload, seeks additional inspectors

BJ Rowling of the town building department reported July 7 that the department issued 241 building permits from January through July, performed roughly 391 inspections and conducted 156 multifamily/assembly/operating inspections; staff also completed 173 municipal searches. Rowling said seasonal inspections and enforcement work are keeping the department busy and that the office is short‑staffed.
Town leaders and the supervisor said the department is interviewing candidates and anticipate hiring two or three inspectors to improve oversight and responsiveness to complaints and permitted work. The staffing shortage, Rowling said, is a reason some compliance issues can slip through and the department is prioritizing hiring to address that gap.
