Commission approves new 12' x 30' aviary at White Memorial

White Memorial's application to replace an aging aviary was approved unanimously by the Planning & Zoning Commission on May 4. Executive Director L. Hyder presented the proposal and described a 12' x 30' replacement sited near the museum, to be completed before demolition of the existing owl and hawk habitat.
Key design features include a center hallway between the two cages, doors from the habitats opening into a vestibule rather than directly outside, interior pervious pavers over crushed stone, electrical service and a dry hydrant tied into the museum basement's water supply. Conceptual design photos by Earth Tones of Woodbury, CT were submitted with the application. Commissioner S. Simonin moved to approve; P. Losee seconded and the vote was unanimous.
