District outlines summer capital projects: seminary conversion, playgrounds, welding shop and new vocational space

Business Administrator Scott McMillan summarized the district’s capital-project plan for the summer: installing fire sprinklers and limited classroom improvements in the former seminary space to add middle-school capacity; completing landscaping tied to a new welding-shop parking area; removing playground chips to install accessible surfacing at Mountain Green Elementary; and building out a ventilated classroom for a nail-tech program plus expanded day-care space at the high school.
"The big project for this summer is the conversion of the seminary, the former seminary building over here into part of the middle school," McMillan said, noting crews were connecting the fire-sprinkler line and that the work would be focused rather than an extensive remodel. He also described steps to bring playgrounds into ADA compliance and noted a short-term loan tied to the welding shop will be managed with existing cash balances.
Board members asked about timelines and potential additional capital requests (carpeting or interior updates), and McMillan said those items would go through the regular capital-request process if they are needed. No capital votes were taken at the meeting; McMillan presented the planned work and financing posture for board awareness and future oversight.
