Town to seek revised application and public hearing after dog pound setback reduced

Town land use staff told the Essex Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission on July 14 that changes are proposed to the previously approved dog pound and animal control office that would reduce the building setback from the wetlands and change the location of dog runs.
"The town is proposing changing the building to a more rectangular shape as well as pushing it back further. It was originally 82 feet from the wetlands and now it would be 58.5 feet. The original plan was to have the dog runs on the southwest side and now they would be to the south. This is due to noise concerns," Carey Duques, the land use official, said. Duques told the commission she had spoken with S. Rutkowska and said a revised application will be necessary. Chairman Michael Furgueson said he spoke with R. Doane and that Doane agreed another public hearing should be scheduled.
Commission members agreed that September would be the best month for a public hearing, pending submission of the revised application and required notices. The minutes record that the commission expects to hold an additional public hearing on the redesign rather than treating the changes as an administrative amendment.
