City presents Don D. Miller historic preservation awards to two property owners

The city recognized local preservation efforts at Tuesday's meeting by presenting the Don D. Miller historic preservation awards.
Senior Planner Bob Nathan explained the award, created in 2002 and renamed in 2009 for Don D. Miller, and invited Mayor Cleveland and commissioners to the podium to present awards to Catherine Kaufman for a residence at 809 East 24th Avenue and to Steve Foulitzer for a non-residential property at 101 Canal Street. "Awards are given to properties that promote pride to the city's past and they increase awareness and appreciation for buildings that contribute to the history and the character," Nathan said.
Mayor Cleveland and commissioners congratulated the winners and the planning department thanked all applicants and encouraged future nominations.
