Revised 3,000 sq ft animal control facility planned at Grieder Field; septic, sprinkler and hearing questions remain

Town staff presented updated plans for a Regional Animal Control Facility (RACF) proposed for Grieder Field at 72 Plains Road. Ryan Welch said he had received revised plans from BMP Construction indicating a building of approximately 3,000 square feet. Planned interior spaces include a food prep room, a storage room, a laundry room, a grooming room, and an office.
Committee members discussed site infrastructure needs. The project will require a septic system, and members debated whether a fire-suppression sprinkler system would be necessary; Welch reported the Fire Marshal and the Health Director will provide opinions. Town Engineer Bob Doane said rotating the proposed building on the property changes site conditions and will require a public hearing (possibly in September or October) and inland wetlands approval before the planning and zoning meeting.
Bruce Glowac asked Welch to continue working with BMP Construction on finalizing the design so the town can receive a construction price. No construction contract or final cost was presented at the meeting; the committee emphasized that final plans and regulatory approvals remain prerequisites to moving this project into a procurement phase.
