Residents warn of 'spot zoning' as commission hears first readings on South Atlantic comp-plan and rezoning ordinances

Several residents who attended the zoning hearing urged commissioners to reject the change or to scrutinize the developer's relief requests. Cindy Snusack, who said she attended the planning meeting, told commissioners staff did not recommend the change and warned that converting commercially zoned parcels to residential uses could set a precedent and reduce local commercial tax base. Snusack described driveway and curb-cut concerns and said the project's design may rely on reduced setbacks and buffer relief.
City Attorney noted the items are being returned for formal consideration and staff will present paired companion items depending on December votes; the commission did not take a final action at this meeting.
