CRA approves $20,598 historic-preservation grant for New Smyrna Beach Garden Club

The Community Redevelopment Agency approved a 50/50 historic preservation grant of $20,598 on Oct. 28 for the New Smyrna Beach Garden Club to enhance landscaping and learning features at its building at 2000 Turnbull Bay Road. Sam Bergeron, the city's economic development director, told the board the building was donated in 1988 and that the project includes a butterfly garden, a micro-forest, pavers and additional walkways.
Bergeron said the total project cost is $41,195.94 and that the Garden Club's application meets the historic West Side preservation and not-for-profit grant guidelines. "Staff recommends approval for this particular grant," Bergeron said. The board moved and seconded the item and approved it on roll call with all recorded members voting yes.
