Depoe Bay council approves first phase of code update, authorizes MIG work under $37,000

Staff explained the city received a grant through a state program to evaluate housing and that combining the housing study with a code update will reduce costs. The city manager said the total projected cost of a full code update would normally exceed $200,000, but working in concert with the grant and consultant MIG will reduce immediate costs; council authorized Task 1 and Task 2 not to exceed $37,000.
Council emphasized the need for public engagement and town halls as part of the process. "We're going to hold several town halls and workshops... that's a public way in on this because you can't do this without public input," staff said during the presentation. The council also authorized the city administrator to execute the agreement after legal review.
Staff said the work will be phased and that further funding requests for later phases will be considered in subsequent budget cycles.
