Commission hears proposal to buy short-term rental compliance software; vendor costs discussed

Commission member Trevor (S2) told the commission about a vendor, Deckard Technologies, that scans online advertisements to identify potential short-term rental violations, generates letters and accepts online registrations and payments on the city's behalf. He said the system could reduce staff workload and improve compliance where on-the-ground checks are sparse.
"They even have letters that we can tell them what we want...and when once identified, she can just hit a button and send a letter out," Trevor said. Commissioners discussed vendor pricing in-session; one speaker said a setup cost of $17,000 and another said the vendor quoted $17,500 for startup and about $7,000 annually after that. Trevor said he would clarify the exact figures with the vendor and report back.
Members noted the compliance gap the software would address: listings often surface only when staff drive the area or a citizen reports them, so an automated scan would expand detection. Commissioners asked Trevor to confirm the vendor reference sites and the precise cost and compliance scope before the commission considers a contract.
