Nephi council agrees to $50 car-show donation and directs staff to draft donations policy

City Administrator Seth Atkinson explained at the June 9 work session that state law prevents the city from making certain donations unless the city receives a direct benefit. To address that constraint, staff proposed drafting a donations policy that allows enterprise funds to sponsor community events in exchange for promotional material or advertising featuring the enterprise’s logo.
Atkinson requested approval to take $50 from the gas fund for the annual car show donation and to draft a policy that requires promotional recognition for such enterprise-funded donations; the council agreed by consensus. Staff will draft the proposed donations policy and return it for council consideration.
