Councilors agreed to table the second reading and public hearing on the proposed tree ordinance (ord. 36026) and instead form a small work group and run a public work session to rework the draft. Councilors said they want clearer definitions and more public input before taking action.
During public comment a resident (speaker 9) asked the council to avoid adding fees that would burden homeowners and highlighted the cost of planting and maintaining new trees. "I really would like to vote no on any kind of fees for any tree work that is going to enhance the neighborhood," the resident said. Council members noted the need to balance viewshed protections with tree preservation and agreed the ordinance requires further community engagement.
