Superintendent Jack Henderson told the board the district recently received a $2,499,000 award to strengthen unreinforced masonry walls at the elementary school and that construction is expected to occur after students depart in summer 2026. "We got the award last week, $2,499,000," Henderson said, noting paperwork and engineering work will begin this summer.
To prepare future applications and study other buildings (including Petersburg), the board approved a $25,000 assessment/service proposal with WRK structural and seismic engineers. Henderson said WRK staff will complete surveys this summer and assist with applications for additional seismic renovation cycles. The board discussed prior TAP grants and a multi‑phase approach to seismic improvements that also generated non‑structural facility benefits.
