Dufur students describe Washington, D.C., trip and promote CARE Act proposal

High school students and the Native American Youth Advisory Council presented to the board about a trip to Washington, D.C., where students visited federal memorials, museums and attended a Senate hearing. Goliath Hill, the Native American Youth Outreach Coordinator, and student speaker Alma described participating in workshops and meeting two Oregon senators who heard student presentations.
Alma told the board the group's policy proposal was called the CARE Act. "Our proposal was the CARE Act," she said, explaining the measure aims to improve access to rehabilitation and reversal drugs for Native American communities. Hill said the council plans to expand recruitment and opportunities for more Native American students to participate in similar civic programs.
