Smith-Green public hearing on collective bargaining adjourned after no public testimony

The Smith-Green Community Schools board convened a public hearing on collective bargaining at its administration office on Sept. 17, 2025, but adjourned the hearing at 3:40 p.m. after no members of the public registered to speak, the chair said. The chair opened the session by reading the district mission: “by focusing on excellence in education and providing opportunities for all students to succeed, we strive to be the best small school in Indiana.”
The chair described the procedures for public testimony and cited the legal authorities governing the hearing, saying the hearing was held “in accordance to Indiana code 20 dash 29 dash 6 dash 1 a and in accordance with the board policy of 0 1 6 7.3.” A sign-in sheet had been provided before the meeting restarted, but the chair reported that there were no registered speakers and then adjourned the hearing. No motions were made and no votes were taken during the public hearing.
The public hearing was listed as covering collective bargaining with the SGCTA. With no testimony taken, the board recorded no formal actions from public testimony; the chair declared the hearing adjourned at 3:40 p.m. The district did not announce any follow-up hearings during the session.
