Municipal authority waives bidding and approves $200,000 chlorine purchase for water treatment

The Innom Municipal Authority voted to waive competitive bidding and award a $200,000 blanket purchase order for one-ton chlorine cylinders to a sole source provider for the period July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
Utilities staff explained Brenntag (and similarly named wholesalers) is the only Northwest Oklahoma supplier able to provide one-ton or larger cylinders; smaller suppliers only offer 110-pound cylinders and would require travel to the Dallas–Fort Worth area. “Brenntag is the only company in Northwest Oklahoma that can provide 1 ton or larger cylinders of chlorine,” a utilities representative said. The motion to approve passed unanimously, 7-0.
The contract will be used in the city’s water treatment process and is an annual procurement item the authority considers routinely.
