Edmonston council weighs permit and $150 fee for recurring garage sales

At a Sept. 2 work session, the Town of Edmonston reviewed a proposed ordinance that would require a permit for garage sales held on the first and third Saturdays of each month and impose a $150 permit fee consistent with mobile vendor licensing.
Police Chief Eric Beale presented the concept and told the council the measure would be enforced through citations and fines. Council members asked staff to refine the ordinance so it distinguishes residents selling household items from people operating retail-style sales, and to tweak language addressing the cost structure and how neighbors would be notified.
The council did not take a formal vote at the work session; staff will prepare revised ordinance language for consideration at the Sept. 10 regular meeting.
