Board adopts 2025–26 budget calendar, approves certified staff renewals; superintendent policy items advanced as first reading

At the March 3 meeting the board completed several governance and budget actions.
Trustees approved the list of certified staff renewals for the 2025–26 school year by voice vote. The chair then moved adoption of the 2025–26 budget calendar; the board adopted the calendar that schedules budget committee work and a budget hearing in May/June (May 12 for the budget committee and June adoption). The chair closed the motions with a voice vote; "All those in favor of approving the 2526 budget calendar as presented?" the chair asked and trustees responded "Aye."
The board also reviewed first readings of two OSBA draft policies: one covering recruitment and appointment of a superintendent and one covering superintendent contract provisions (including termination notice and benefit continuation language). Board members said they would return both items for a subsequent reading, and highlighted negotiation levers that sometimes appear in contracts (health insurance continuation and termination provisions).
Next steps: certified staff renewals will be implemented for the 2025–26 year; staff will update budget projections ahead of budget committee and hearing dates; policy drafts will return for further board consideration.
