Engineer outlines stormwater work, 1,400‑meter replacement and water contingency needs
Summary
Village engineer described OPWC stormwater catch-basin replacements, a stormwater system inventory, and a two‑year plan to replace about 1,400 water meters; he said Ohio EPA funding and a $929,000 earmark reduce, but do not fully cover, an estimated $1.16 million secondary connection project.

Engineer Alan briefed the council on multiple water and stormwater initiatives, including OPWC Round 40 catch-basin replacements, a stormwater system inventory and an aggressive two-year program to replace about 1,400 water meters with automatic MTU/radio read units.
Alan said crews and interns are conducting field work to map the storm system and that replacing meters will allow automated reads and faster leak detection. He said the village has $929,000 in congressional earmark funds for a secondary water connection project but estimated the total project cost at about $1,162,000, leaving an approximate $200,000 shortfall; the village is pursuing Ohio EPA zero-percent loan options and principal forgiveness.
On contingency planning, Alan cited OAC requirements for three backup water sources and said the village must install a secondary water connection to meet the contingency standard now that the local treatment plant is no longer available. He said more design and funding updates will be presented in subsequent meetings.
