District staff report lead exceedances in water at elementary and high school; targeted fixes planned

Brian, who reported the facilities findings to the board, said multiple water samples from both the elementary and high school exceeded the state lead threshold and staff are working to resample, cap fixtures and replace plumbing as needed. "I had 4 that I reported to you guys that I had, exceeded the limits for lead," Brian said, adding that after follow-up tests the elementary is down to two problem draws and the high school had more exceedances that are still being investigated.
Board members asked whether filtration or simply running fixtures more often would help. Brian said drinking fountains in the district have filters and that some problem fixtures may require replacing supply lines, shutoff valves and faucets. He cited the district's exceedance threshold as "15" and reported a sample result of "16 8" (as stated in the meeting), noting some readings appear inconsistent between adjacent fixtures and that staff will continue resampling to pinpoint the sources and, where necessary, cap fixtures to prevent use until fixed.
