Exchange students present on Spain and Germany at Crow-Applegate-Lorane board meeting

International exchange students visiting through an AYA program spoke to the Crow-Applegate-Lorane School District 66 board about their home countries and school experiences.
"So my name is Mario Garin, and I'm an exchange student from Spain," said Mario, who described the Basque Country’s distinct language, traditional dances and gastronomy. He told the board that Basque is an isolated language and pointed to symbols such as the Ikurriña and Lauburu as cultural emblems. Other students compared Germany’s geography and school structure with Oregon’s and explained differences in grade ranges and vocational tracks.
Board members thanked the students and host families for the presentations. Chair thanked the students for sharing their experiences and encouraged the community to attend upcoming school events where exchange students will appear.
The presentations occurred during the meeting’s guest presenter block and were framed as cultural and educational exchanges; no formal board action followed the presentations.
