The committee discussed outreach strategies to engage civic and business networks across Beaufort County, including Rotarians, chambers of commerce, realtors and local Greek-letter organizations commonly referred to as the "Divine 9." Members recommended distributing the legislative materials to these groups and scheduling meetings to inform constituents about district priorities.
A committee member also described meetings with outside researchers and suggested inviting university projects to pilot programs and provide empiric surveys. "When you start talking about hardware, I think money—lots of it—shows up," one member said, urging the board to continue inviting outside partners to bring resources and evidence to local pilots.
Members asked attendees who went to external conferences to deliver recaps to staff so the entire board can review promising opportunities and potential funding sources.
