Committee compiles FY26 budget requests, including $90,000 for Gardens Corner and $200,000 for litter pickup

The Keep Beaufort County Beautiful subcommittee agreed on a set of FY26 budget requests meant to scale up the group's outreach and capital work.
Committee members discussed a proposed $90,000 request to fund a larger Gardens Corner intersection project including planters, a flagpole and related plantings along Highway 17; the item was moved for inclusion in the FY26 ask. "We're gonna do grape myrtles... the entrance of Gardens Corner... the planters that go all the way down the road," Chris Campbell said when outlining the scope. The board also agreed to add a $26,000 line to fund two decorative "rice trunk" replica signs and to request $10,000 for a "Welcome to Beaufort County" sign on Highway 278.
In addition, the committee voted to request $200,000 to contract outside litter-pickup services countywide and $30,000 for outreach and education in FY26 (billboards, event materials and the water buggy sponsorship). The group agreed to consolidate these requests in a single budget document and to forward it to the county CFO and finance office for formal consideration.
Members noted these are budget requests (not approved county expenditures) and will be subject to county review and possible changes during the official budget process.
