Barren County accepts $250,000 LWCF grant and $250,000 match for soccer complex improvements

Barren County Fiscal Court voted to accept a $250,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant and a matching $250,000 contribution to improve parking at the county soccer complex, the court announced July 21.
The chair said the grant and match were awarded jointly to a multi‑entity partnership that includes Barren County Schools, Glasgow Schools, the county fiscal court and Glasgow city government; county officials said the award means “there—s no cost at all to that project to the county or to any of those entities.” The court approved the grant acceptance by voice vote. Officials said lighting improvements to the backfield will proceed and the larger parking work is expected to be timed with the KYTC 1297 widening project, which county staff currently hopes will begin in 2027.
The county emphasized there is a three‑year completion window for the LWCF grant. The chair noted some schedule uncertainty for the parking portion because it should align with the state road project, but said the county has the funds to complete parking work when the timing allows.
