Board approves Walden Acres administrative subdivision after drainage review requirement

The planning body approved the Walden Acres administrative subdivision requests after hearing concerns from neighbors about drainage and site access. Bill Davies of Dave's Land Surveying described the plan to move a property line and include an existing accessory structure, and he said soil borings show septic and house sites are feasible. The board emphasized that any future building permits must pass the county’s stormwater review before construction begins: “When we go to permit the 3 proposed houses, that will go through Porter County,” Davies said, and staff confirmed drainage calculations will be required.

Neighbors raised specific flooding and drainage complaints during the public hearing; a resident said yards have been flooded in previous years and urged coordination with the stormwater department. The applicant and the board noted that drainage calculations were performed and that the stormwater reviewer will enforce standards at permit stage. The board approved DVDash2026-37 and DVDash2026-38 with the condition that drainage review and any necessary mitigation be completed prior to permits being issued.
