Police report notes equipment needs, fraud reports; chicken rules to return in November

President Robert McLimans presented the police report prepared by Chief Small, who was out of town for K-9 training. The report said the speed-trailer motherboard needs replacement and that staff set up a temporary speed trailer to collect Mill Street data; the department will present findings at the November board meeting. The report also listed three fraud incidents in September and multiple security checks on businesses.

The report described a Homecoming prank in which a large amount of Vaseline was applied to a home and trespassers entered a residence; McLimans said parents were contacted and warned, and the incidents were described in the report as having been "taken too far." The report also noted a camper behind Oates Hatchery that appears to be used intermittently by someone working at the hatchery rather than as a permanent residence.

Chief Small's item included operational-cost notes: TIME system access at $60 per month and an officer support fee of $4.25 per certified officer per month, billed annually; the department is also seeking donated laptops, mounts and printers. The board agreed to revisit a proposed chicken ordinance at the November meeting, with McLimans citing Montfort's policy limiting ownership to hens, requiring an application, and charging an annual license similar to dog licenses.
