Village delays $27,000 culvert replacement after township declines cost sharing

The board reviewed a $27,000 bid from Wamsley Excavating to replace a small culvert that currently causes flooding on Fourth Street during heavy rains. Keith Leitzinger explained that runoff from the fairgrounds exceeds the capacity of the existing pipe.
Officials said the township initially planned to share the cost but withdrew after reviewing the quote. Given the expense and a planned Highway 35 road project, the board reached consensus to defer the culvert work until that larger project proceeds, which officials said may alleviate some runoff issues when township areas are resurfaced.
