Board approves permanent Mill Street speed sign after study finds higher speeds entering town

Village President Robert McLimans and the Village Board voted to install a permanent speed sign on Mill Street at the north entry from Fair Grounds Road after police presented a targeted speed study. Chief Small told the board that at the south Mill Street location more than 2,600 of 3,026 vehicles traveled at or below 25 mph, while the north location showed higher travel speeds, with 644 vehicles recorded in the 26–30 mph range and 332 in the 31–35 mph range.
Chief Small recommended placing a permanent sign at the north end (rather than continuing to use the portable trailer) to slow traffic entering Bloomington; the board approved the installation by unanimous motion. The action was recorded as a formal motion and carried without dissent.
