Sheriff asks for more space; commissioners approve evidence-storage renovation

Sheriff's Office staff brought photos of the current evidence locker, saying the facility is crowded and that case volume has risen sharply since the room was built. "Our cases have obviously, like, quadrupled since that thing was made... it's about 7 by 7. It's pretty full, pretty stuffed," the speaker said while describing the storage constraints.
Commissioners considered a quote to convert the old garage in the jail basement into additional locked storage with shelving, weapons racks and organization features. After discussing indexing and possible scanning of older files to reduce physical storage demands, the board approved accepting Kessler Custom Shop's bid to expand evidence storage. Commissioners said the county will track budget implications and look for grant opportunities to offset costs where appropriate.
