Acting City Administrator Will Sadler gave a detailed update on the city's short-term water-quality interventions and monitoring.
Sadler said the first copper sulfate dosing was applied in the first week of July and that a second application for the same treatment area was scheduled for the week of the meeting; the plan calls for a two-week wait between doses and a second phase in September. "The first one went in the first week of July, and the second in this phase will be done, I believe, tomorrow," Sadler said. He reported recent sampling showed low levels of contaminants in the lake and tap, with a small uptick in the MIB measurement that remained low overall.
He also said the city remains ‘‘still waiting for the Tetra Tech study’’ and that the city is coordinating with Lenawee County on materials and testing timelines. Multiple residents during public comment said they continue to notice problems in certain neighborhoods and asked staff to pursue state and grant funding options. Commissioner discussion included checking with municipalities that use oxidizers and following up with sample labs in Monroe where the city occasionally sends specialized testing.
