Suncoast Fire reports award, recent calls and county denial of extra rescue

Division Chief of Training Chip Bodine told the Town of Belleair Shore commission that Suncoast Fire handled multiple house and boat fires in May and earned the Florida Association of Special Districts "District of the Year" Award. He said the department recorded only one medical call and one water rescue in May, adding that "the water rescue was just a raft floating off to sea."
Bodine told commissioners the county denied Suncoast's request for additional rescue resources and said he would follow up to determine the reason for the denial. The commission did not take formal action on the request during the meeting.
