Council approved hiring a laborer for the public works department (Marcellus Gaines, who prefers "Mark") to begin Aug. 3, 2026; wages will be paid per the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Council also approved hiring Jeffrey Layton as a part‑time code enforcement officer under a contract basis, with money to be taken from the specified line item.
Council additionally authorized the city clerk to apply for the countywide Local Share Account (LSA) grant for the 2026 cycle, with council members discussing use cases including a new salt shed or repairs to the existing one and other maintenance projects. The council noted prior LSA awards and discussed matching or liquid fuel fund options for repairs.
