The City Council recognized members of the Buffalo Soldiers of Louisiana (9th Cavalry and 25th Infantry) with a proclamation marking the organization’s formation anniversary.
Multiple members and cofounders spoke about the Buffalo Soldiers’ history, community service and educational work. Richard Keller recounted the group’s origins and the organization’s role in teaching local history; John Anderson and Barbara Anderson described founding the local unit in 2006 and continuing outreach such as feeding and clothing drives. Several members highlighted historic ties to New Orleans and emphasized the group’s role in preserving the legacy of African American military service.
Council members thanked the Buffalo Soldiers for the educational work and community service; the event concluded with photos and further introductions of participants.
