City staff presented a $4,778 change order to the construction contract with Maguire Iron for the downtown 500,000-gallon water tower to reroute and reduce the number of large communications conduits. "The providers no longer need [six 6-inch conduits]," the staff presenter said, explaining the smaller cable sizes in modern installations and noting the change would leave capacity to run fiber or unspecified future uses (Mike, speaker 6, SEG 560'SEG 579).
The change order was described as modest and related to the connection of communications equipment and conduit layout; the council moved, seconded and approved the change. The clerk recorded the motion and the vote was registered without extended debate. The change order will be incorporated into the project contract as a minor adjustment to the first of three tower contracts.
Provenance: presentation and council vote recorded beginning with the staff presentation at SEG 560 and the subsequent motion and vote recorded by the clerk at SEG 587-596.
