The chief added, “She got that unit into full compliance with the consent decree monitors way before the rest of the police department came along.”
Celius, joined by former supervisors and Family Justice Center staff, said she was “very thankful for this opportunity to be honored for simply doing my sworn duty, to represent and serve my community.” Council members and former chiefs gave brief tributes to her mentorship during Hurricane Katrina and across her career.
The council read a proclamation that noted Celius’s work on victims' issues and initiatives such as Brian’s Call and recognized her with a framed proclamation signed by all seven members. The presentation concluded with photos and applause.
