Board prioritizes removing tall shelves and ADA access in children's redesign

Trustees said the first priorities for the children's-area redesign are safety and accessibility rather than decorative elements. The Chair said her first priority is safety and listed actions including "getting those big tall shelves out of there" and installing lower shelving so a wheelchair could "get in there and turn around."

Board and foundation members agreed that making aisles accessible and compliant with ADA guidance was essential before other amenities. The group discussed phasing so accessibility and safety items could be done first while less-critical features (specialty chairs, play structures) could wait until further fundraising secured additional dollars. The chair said accessibility improvements and shelf reconfiguration will be among the first items purchased or executed once funding is available.
