Franklin City’s Community Development Authority recommended approval on July 23 of a land-combination request from Yaskawa America Inc. that would merge two vacant parcels in the Franklin Business Park. Staff told the authority the resulting parcel would meet the Unified Development Ordinance requirements and recommended the authority forward approval to the Common Council.
At the presentation, a staff member summarized the review findings: the two parcels would form a roughly 12-acre site and — based on calculations the applicant provided — would meet minimum-lot-size and impervious-surface standards under the plan-development district and the UDO. "Staff recommends approval," the staff member said. The staff presentation also noted a small triangular area that would be swapped among adjoining parcels and said the applicant’s calculations demonstrate compliance after the combination.
The authority moved to recommend approval; after a motion and a second, members voted in favor and the motion carried. Staff told the board the proposal would go before the plan commission that evening and would return to the council in approximately two weeks for final action.
The action affects parcels listed on the authority’s materials as 4801 West Ashland Way (tax key 9000009021) and 4701 West Basswood Drive (tax key 9000009007). The authority’s approval is a recommendation to the Common Council; the council will make the final decision at a later meeting.
