During the public-comment portion of the meeting, two residents invited commissioners and the public to upcoming community events.
Pam Drews (1530 Paw Paw Road, Stoneville), speaking on behalf of the Rockingham County Asian Planning Committee, invited commissioners to three monthly meetings aimed at discussing plans for the county’s aging population and provided the schedule and guest presenters. "We would welcome your attendance at all of our monthly meetings," Drews said, and added she planned to attend commissioners’ meetings monthly to inform the board about ongoing elderly-related issues.
Seth Brooks (495 Penn Road, Ridgeville) invited the board to a revival event at Shiloh Airport on Sept. 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., organized by the nonprofit Project Law Sheep in support of the GAPOVE initiative. Brooks said the event will include booths for churches, children’s activities, speakers and worship and is intended to "unite the local church and be in the gap for people." No policy action was taken on these items; both were public information items.
Why it matters: The community-organized meetings and events signal ongoing civic engagement around services for older adults and local nonprofit activity. Commissioners acknowledged volunteers and encouraged civic participation.
What’s next: Interested commissioners and residents may attend the listed meetings and events; organizers and staff can follow up with the county manager’s office for further coordination.
