Studio Kramer presented the design-development (DD) review for Nelson County High School’s phase 1 at the July 21 meeting, outlining a two-story addition on the Bloomfield Road side, new campus-entrance sequencing, and interior student-hub and micro-school layouts. The firm said construction documents will go to the district’s construction partner this fall and the team is "looking for construction start winter of this year," while coordinating phasing so the school may be occupied during portions of construction.
Board members pressed on phasing details and occupant safety; the presenter said life-safety systems, exiting and connections back to the existing building are being coordinated and Caudill (cost-estimating partner) is finalizing cost estimates so design development can move forward. The superintendent noted the phasing approach gives flexibility for program and teacher organization during the transition.
