Board approves consent agenda; district highlights WHAS grant, vehicle swap and student trip

The Nelson County Board of Education approved its consent agenda at the July 21 meeting, a package that included a WHAS grant for part of the district music therapist’s salary, a transportation vehicle surplus and replacement, and authorization for an overnight student trip. Board Chair (speaker 2) called for the motion to approve the consent agenda "as presented," and members voted in favor.

Board members praised the WHAS grant as support for a "vital, important role" in the district’s student services. When asked about the vehicle purchase, the Superintendent (speaker 1) explained the action was a maintenance-driven surplus and transfer: one vehicle’s frame had rusted beyond safe use, some vehicles were being shifted from transportation to maintenance, and the district obtained a used replacement after state bidding at a price described as "below the state price of about 4 or $5,000." The board recorded the motion, a second, and an affirmative vote; the chair declared the motion passed.
