Commissioners heard two community support updates on July 20: an Elks 'Adopt a Vet' program arranged a full shower assembly (including plumbing and electrical work) for a Vietnam veteran in St. Charles with Parkinson's, and the VFW auxiliary and the City of O'Fallon are collecting care-package items for deployed troops through Sept. 9.
A speaker said the Elks coordinated the repair and that volunteers provided yard and personal support for a veteran who could no longer maintain his home. "They agreed to come in and give him a complete shower assembly ... it'll all be taken care of," the speaker said. Another member announced the VFW auxiliary collection and noted a list of requested items is on the VFW website; donations can be delivered to City Hall or the VFW through September 9.
